Araun Gordijn (Amsterdam, 1947) graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and made his reputation with realist paintings of a dreamed and reconstructed America. His many travels through the United States were an important source of inspiration. In the resulting ‘carscapes’ figure ‘dated’ cars and roadside architecture. The situation often goes back to the 40s, 50s and 60s of the last century.
